Tom Cleverley Retirement Officially Confirmed

Former Manchester United and England midfielder Tom Cleverley has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 32. Cleverley, who spent the last six seasons at Watford, confirmed the news on his social media accounts on Monday.

Cleverley started his career at Manchester United, where he came through the academy and made his debut in 2008. He was part of the squad that won the Premier League title in 2013, as well as two League Cups and a FIFA Club World Cup. He also had loan spells at Leicester City, Watford and Aston Villa during his time at Old Trafford.

Cleverley moved to Everton in 2015, where he spent two seasons before returning to Watford on a permanent deal in 2017. He helped the Hornets reach the FA Cup final in 2019, where they lost to Manchester City. He made a total of 146 appearances for Watford, scoring 11 goals.

Cleverley also represented England at various levels, earning 13 senior caps between 2012 and 2013. He scored his only international goal in a friendly against Sweden in 2012. He was part of the England squad that competed at Euro 2012, where they reached the quarter-finals.

In a statement on his Instagram account, Cleverley thanked his family, friends, teammates, coaches and fans for their support throughout his career. He said he was proud of what he achieved and grateful for the opportunities he had. He also said he was looking forward to the next chapter of his life.

“I have decided to retire from professional football,” Cleverley wrote. “It has been an incredible journey and I have loved every minute of it. I have been lucky enough to play for some amazing clubs and represent my country, which was a dream come true. I have met so many great people along the way and made some friends for life.

“I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way, especially my family who have always been there for me. I also want to thank all the fans who have supported me throughout my career, you have been amazing and I will never forget your kindness and passion.

“I am proud of what I have achieved in the game and I am grateful for all the opportunities I have had. I have no regrets and I am happy with how it all turned out. I am looking forward to spending more time with my family and enjoying the next chapter of my life. Thank you for everything.”
