Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez, the 19-year-old grandson of Robert De Niro, passes away

It is with great sadness that we report the tragic death of Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez, the 19-year-old grandson of legendary actor Robert De Niro. Leandro was a promising young man who had a bright future ahead of him, but his life was cut short by a fatal car accident on Sunday night.

According to the police, Leandro was driving his BMW on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California, when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a guardrail. He was pronounced dead at the scene, while his passenger, a 20-year-old female friend, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but witnesses said that Leandro was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic before the crash.

Leandro was the son of Raphael De Niro, Robert’s eldest son from his first marriage to Diahnne Abbott. He was also the nephew of Drena De Niro, Robert’s adopted daughter from the same marriage. Leandro had a close relationship with his grandfather, who often praised him for his talent and passion. Leandro was an aspiring musician and actor, who had recently enrolled in the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He had also appeared in a few short films and commercials, following in his grandfather’s footsteps.

Robert De Niro issued a statement on Monday, expressing his grief and asking for privacy during this difficult time. He said: “We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Leandro. He was a wonderful young man who had so much to offer to the world. He was kind, generous, creative, and full of joy. He touched everyone who knew him with his warmth and charisma. We will miss him terribly and we ask that you respect our privacy as we mourn his passing.”

Leandro is survived by his parents, Raphael and Claudine De Niro, his siblings, Nicholas, Julian, Elliot, and Helen Grace, his grandparents, Robert and Grace Hightower De Niro, and many other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held later this week to honor his life and legacy. Rest in peace, Leandro.
