Elon Musk Implements Daily Restrictions on Twitter Post Consumption
Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and founder of SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink and The Boring Company, has announced that he will limit his daily intake of Twitter posts to 10 per day. This decision comes after a series of controversial tweets that have sparked backlash from investors, regulators, customers and the public.
Musk, who has over 60 million followers on Twitter, is known for his frequent and often provocative posts on the social media platform. He has used Twitter to share his opinions on topics ranging from cryptocurrencies, artificial intelligence, climate change, Covid-19, memes and more. He has also used Twitter to communicate with his fans, customers, employees and even other celebrities.
However, Musk’s tweets have also landed him in trouble on several occasions. In 2018, he was sued by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for tweeting that he had secured funding to take Tesla private at $420 per share, which was not true. He settled the case by paying a $20 million fine and agreeing to have his tweets reviewed by a lawyer before posting. In 2020, he tweeted that Tesla’s stock price was “too high”, causing it to drop by 10%. He also tweeted that he would sell all his physical possessions and that he was not joking. In 2021, he tweeted that he had bought $1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin for Tesla, boosting its price, but later reversed his decision and said that Tesla would no longer accept Bitcoin as payment due to environmental concerns, causing its price to plummet.
Musk has admitted that his tweets have caused him problems and that he sometimes regrets them. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal in December 2020, he said that “Twitter is a war zone” and that “if somebody wants to pick a fight with me on Twitter, they’re going to get it”. He also said that he tries to be less impulsive and more thoughtful before tweeting, but that it is hard to resist the temptation.
In a tweet on July 1st, 2023, Musk announced that he will impose a self-restraint on his Twitter usage and limit himself to 10 posts per day. He said that this will help him focus on his work and avoid unnecessary distractions and controversies. He also said that he will use a timer app to track his Twitter time and that he will donate $1 million to a charity of his choice for every tweet that exceeds his daily quota.
Musk’s tweet received mixed reactions from his followers. Some praised him for his self-discipline and maturity, while others expressed disappointment and sadness over losing their source of entertainment and inspiration. Some also questioned whether Musk will be able to stick to his plan or whether he will change his mind again.
